I wanted to share my beautiful dress ensemble, which has become my favorite project to sew. This year's theme was "Freedom of Fabric", so I decided to use the most colorful fabric I had on hand. During a recent road trip, I purchased some additional fabric along the way. If you ever find yourself in Montreal, be sure to visit the local fabric stores; the prices will make your sewing heart flutter! I've included a list of addresses below for your convenience.

rough Sketch Of My Original Deisgn
Since the fabric was the staple of everything, I decided to create a princess seam bodice paired with a full circle skirt, which is perfect for twirling and feeling elegant.

The dress was inspired by the 1950s, so wrist gloves had to be included as part of the accessories; every proper lady had matching gloves with her outfit. Next, I faced a challenge in selecting a purse.

The shapes of purses from that era were not the most appealing, and I often wondered what they were thinking! Ultimately, I opted for a blend of modern and vintage styles with a boxy shape. Once I completed the dress, gloves, and purse, the fan and pantyhose were simple DIY crafts that anyone can tackle.

For the pantyhose, I went to Walmart and purchased sheer tights that matched my skin tone. I then used GemTac glue and rhinestones that I bought from Michaels. If you would like to make this fan, follow the simple YouTube tutorial I used while sewing she was very detailed in her instructions.

There you have it! From accessI am thrilled to share this special moment with you. A week later, and I still haven't put away my dress; it remains on display in my closet. I cherish all my sewing creations, but there is something about sewing vintage pieces that feels just right. Perhaps it's just me, but maybe it's because I am too young to see people dressed like that on the streets, and this style is from a time long before my parents' generation. I prefer it this way; I would rather have the choice to wear a dress than be forced into one!
Happy World Pride 2025!
