Has spring cleaning come to your closet? I know mine has! As soon as Style Encore began accepting clothes for spring, I decluttered everything I hadn’t worn in a while to make space for the best sewing patterns for spring 2025. Gradually, I have been creating staple pieces that my closet needs after deciding not to purchase any ready-to-wear garments anymore. I found it to be one of the hardest decisions I have made in a while, yet I have no regrets. I feel a deeper connection to my clothes because I am in control of the design process from start to finish. In this article we highlight transitional items you can keep for the summer season. So, let's dive in and explore our top selection of sewing patterns!Has spring cleaning come to your closet? I know mine has been! I found it to be one of the hardest decisions I have made in a while, yet I have no regrets. I feel a deeper connection to my clothes because I am in control of the design process from start to finish. In this article we highlight transitional items you can keep for the summer season. So, let's dive in and explore our top selection of sewing patterns for Spring 2025!

According to Glamour Magazine, the spring season is all about functionality, so we are filling our bags to the brim. Tiny bags that are too small to fit a tube of chapstick are out, while the trend of big, unstructured bags is in.

Tank tops are making a comeback for their debut this Spring/Summer 2025, blending classic and contemporary styles. All the designers in Milan are showcasing the white tank top. I am experiencing nostalgic moment; my mommy loved a classic white tank top. I remember she would pair a white tank top with any bottoms, and of course, she would complete the look with a pair of heels! So, take some tips from Mama T and elevate your wardrobe with the essential tank top.

Turn your everyday essential sweatshirt into a fashion statement. This versatile piece is a fantastic addition to your capsule wardrobe. It offers an excellent opportunity to incorporate color, layering, and texture, transforming a typically understated item into a stylish focal point.

In 2025, pants are making a comeback with a twist. Cigarette pants are returning, and the trend of skirts over trousers is emerging on the runway. However, my favorite style is the high-waisted, baggy look, which is perfect for both daytime and nighttime outfits.

This Rachel Comey dress is ideal for all seasons. Its loose fit allows for natural movement, making it comfortable to wear. We recommend pairing it with heels to add a touch of elegance to your outfit, or with comfortable slip-ons for a more casual appearance.

That is correct; Even though its controversial the corset is back! It's time to gather your dressing partners because you're going to need a two-person job to properly lace up a corset and achieve the full effect of waist cinching.

It is encouraging to see that designers are now incorporating denim into their collections. From quilted Chanel cross bags to Louis Vuitton has reissuing its iconic denim monogram, which was first introduced in 2005 during Marc Jacobs's tenure as creative director. Sometimes it is okay to move away from the classics and embrace the new.

A timeless accessory that can dramatically transform your outfit, scarves are versatile and a fun way to add depth to your ensemble. If you are looking to introduce a splash of color into your wardrobe, a silk scarf is the quickest and most effective way to achieve this, offering you endless possibilities for styling.
Who are the “Big 4” sewing patterns?

“Big 4” hierarchy chart
A nickname used by the sewing community refers to the four leading brands in the sewing industry: Simplicity, Butterick, McCall's, and Vogue. In the past, these companies operated as separate entities; however, those days are over, as they are now under one holding company.
Simplicity and Butterick are suitable for novice sewers, while McCall's patterns can range from novice to intermediate, depending on the year the pattern was created. Lastly, Vogue is designed for experienced sewers who seek a challenge. Although the instruction booklets can be tricky, the diagrams are excellent; however, there are times when the written instructions do not align with the visuals, leading to problem-solving and frustration.
What are Indie sewing patterns?

Indie patterns
In summary, independent designers are small-scale businesses or individuals who create sewing patterns and sell them online through their websites, Etsy, or in collaboration with large retail stores. The key to understanding this concept is that these companies operate on a smaller scale, which can be beneficial for the community, as they often prioritize the diversity of body shapes and sizes. Frequently, designers will include a picture or reference indicating which body type is best suited for each pattern. While instructions can sometimes be cumbersome due to poorly written booklets that leave you questioning your desire to sew, I have never encountered issues with the instruction manuals from the trusted indie companies I know. Although not all, most of them provide online video sew-alongs for visual learners like myself. We can confidently say that these patterns have undergone prototyping, ensuring that you will be pleased with your finished garment. Bonus points to those indie companies that offer free sewing patterns—who doesn’t appreciate a complimentary sewing pattern you can instantly download in seconds.
Are Vogue patterns hard to sew ?

The general answer is no, but it can become complicated if you do not know how to read the sewing pattern correctly. You must take the time to read the back of the envelope; it is the most important area in planning a new sewing project.
Tip 1 Size Guide - [Bust, Waist, Hips] The sizes of sewing patterns do not correspond with the sizes found in department stores. Therefore, do not panic like me when first started sewing.
Tip 2 Fabric Recommendation - It is essential to understand which fabrics are appropriate for each sewing pattern. I recommend the J.J. Pizzuto's Fabric Science Swatch Book available on Amazon as a tactile reference guide; you can feel the swatches.
Tip 3 Fabric Yardage - It is generally better to have extra yardage than to be in a difficult situation.
Tip 4 Interfacing, Lining, And Notions - You always want to know what other materials will be needed in addition to your fabric to complete your garment.
Tip 5 Finished Garment Measurements - We save the best for last: an extremely important tip to remember is to always check your finished garment chart in comparison to your bust, waist, and height measurements. This will help you understand what pattern size you need to cut out

S9974 is my first tried-and-true pattern. When I first started sewing, I remember my wife gifted me a corset sewing retreat, and the pattern of choice was S9974. We only had two days to cut out the pattern, cut the fabric, and sew the corset dress. During that chaotic but time, I learned so much information, but I never felt overwhelmed by anything. I highly recommend Madalynn’s sewing retreat in Philadelphia if you have the opportunity to attend. The instructions that came with S9974 were very detailed and, to my surprise, included a sew-along on YouTube, which was the cherry on top. Anyone can sew a Simplicity pattern, making it accessible for beginners. Personally, I love keeping Simplicity patterns on hand for blending looks together or building off a pattern piece.S9974 is my first tried-and-true pattern.
